Trying something new...candle making?!
For a while now I have wanted to try something new with the occasional piece of pottery that maybe has a small flaw on the inside. I've been thinking that one way to give a piece of pottery new life and purpose would be to add wax and make it into a candle. I know this is not a new invention or novel concept, but this would be new for ME!
It is pretty amazing how quickly you can find a few basics via inter-web videos. By melting a small amount of 'new' wax with some chopped up old candles in a double boiler, and adding a new wick, a vessel candle is born!
I had to troubleshoot one issue, here was my next Google search: "Why is my candle sinking in the middle?" The easiest (for me) solution was to leave space to do a second wax pour after the first pour is totally cooled. The second pour was about 1/2 inch in thickness, and gave the candles a nice smooth surface.
It is great to have more tools and try new things!
Stay safe and have a good week.
