This vessel is a dramatic statement piece. Black clay was used for the entire construction, approximately 19" tall. After the base was sculpted (like a pinch pot!), then slabs of many different sizes and shapes were joined, working up from the base.
The slabs were impressed with many different textures to create an unpredictable patchwork. Over the following days additional texture designs were carved and some embellishments were added.
After the first kiln firing a satin white glaze was applied to the vessel. The dramatic textures came to life when the glaze was wiped back from the raised black clay surface.
**Please note, this vessel is NOT water-tight.
