This black and cream vase is one of the first pieces of pottery I made that I was proud of! The method for decorating it is called Sgraffito. Black underglaze was painted on the exterior, then I used a sharp tool and free-hand design to strategically remove parts of the black layer. Then after a first kiln firing it was glazed with clear glaze and fired at a much higher temperature. I love the chaos (no rules!) and freedom that are integral to organic designs.
Approximately: 3.75" tall; 4.74" wide; 1.5 lbs. *Note: this small vase is heavy for its relative size.
Pottery appearance (i.e. color) may be slightly different than online images due to my amateur photography skills and variation in your screen settings. I do my best to upload photos which accurately represent each piece.
